Contest Rules
Each week, at the website https://daveandbusters.thefansplace.com, football prediction contests will be available for entry. Clicking on the contest name will show contest details, including when the contest will be open for entry, by when picks need to be submitted, and prizes that can be won in that contest. Since picks are predictive in nature and based on upcoming games, contests typically lock when the first real-life game begins. Picks must be submitted by that time. Each contest is comprised of a set of questions. Typically the questions are predictive in nature for upcoming real-life sports games. Here are a couple examples:
Indianapolis @ Washington. Who wins?
Matchups: Who has more receiving yards?
Will [player name] score a touchdown?
What will be the result of the first drive of the game?
Multiple possible answers to each question will be available to contestants for selection. Answers may be worth the same amount of points, or different points, and vary from question to question. Following the examples above, here are some potential answers:
Question: Indianapolis @ Washington. Who wins?
Answers: Indianapolis (+1); Washington (+1)
Question: Matchups: Who has more receiving yards?
Answers: Terry McLaurin (+1); Stefon Diggs (+2)
Question: Will [player name] score a touchdown?
Answers: Yes (+3); No (+1)
Question: What will be the result of the first drive of the game?
Answers: Punt (+1), Points (+3), Turnover (+5)
Contestants will select one (1) of the available answers for each questions. Contestants MUST answer EVERY question in a particular contest to be able to enter the contest successfully.
After the contestant submits picks, those picks may be edited and re-submitted up until the time that the contest locks (typically when the first game that has predictions associated with it starts). At that time contestants can access the leaderboard. For every answer that a contestant chooses that is correct, the leaderboard will update with that contestants’ username and the points earned from selecting that answer. When all of the real-life games with predictive questions are finished, all answers will be known, the leaderboard will fully update with point totals, and contestants will know who won (only username willbe displayed on the leaderboard). Text messages will go out at least to the winners, and potentially to each contestant.
The following is an example of how a user may have accumulated points (using the questions from before):
Question: Indianapolis @ Washington. Who wins?
Answers: Indianapolis (+1); Washington (+1)
User Answer: Indianapolis
Correct Answer: Indianapolis
User Score: +1
Question: Matchups: Who has more receiving yards?
Answers: Terry McLaurin (+1); Stefon Diggs (+2)
User Answer: Terry McLauring
Correct Answer: Stefon Diggs
User Score: +0
Question: Will [player name] score a touchdown?
Answers: Yes (+3); No (+1)
User Answer: Yes
Correct Answer: Yes
User Score: +3
Question: What will be the result of the first drive of the game?
Answers: Punt (+1), Points (+3), Turnover (+5)
User Answer: Points
Correct Answer: Punt
User Score: +0
In this example, the user would have score 1 + 0 + 3 + 0 = 4 total points for this contest.
Tiebreaker
Most contests also include a tiebreaker question. This question requires a numerical entry from the user. An example is:
Question: How many total yards in the Indianapolis @ Washington game?
When multiple contestants finish a contest with the same number of total points, the tiebreaker is used to determine the ordering of those contestants. The closest to the correct tiebreaker answer will finish the highest, followed by the second closest, then the third closest, and so on. Closest to the tiebreaker may be over OR under the correct tiebreaker answer. Here is an example of how the tiebreaker works
Contestant 1 Total Points Scored in Contest: 10
Contestant 1 Tiebreaker Answer: 600
Contestant 2 Total Points Scored in Contest: 10
Contestant 2 Tiebreaker Answer: 650
Contestant 3 Total Points Scored in Contest: 10
Contestant 3 Tiebreaker Answer: 700
Correct Tiebreaker Answer: 660
Order of Contestants on Final Leaderboard:
Contestant 2
Contestant 3
Contestant 1
If the correct tiebreaker answer had been 630, the order of contestants on the final leaderboard would have been:
Contestant 2
Contestant 1
Contestant 3
Now, if Contestant 1 had scored 12 total points in the contest, and Contestants 2 and 3 had scored 10 each, Contestant 1 would be ranked first, and only Contestants 2 and 3 would be ranked based on closeness to the correct tiebreaker number.
