The College Football week 7 slate looks like one of the more entertaining regular season lineups in recent history. There are three matchups between top 20 teams, and several other intriguing matchups across the country.
In this article, we will take a deep dive into the week 7 college football contest on EatWatchPlay and share some of our favorite picks, including picks for each of the biggest games.
#1 Texas Longhorns at #18 Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners bounced back from a disappointing week 5 loss to Tennessee with a win over Auburn last week. Michael Hawkins replaced Jackson Arnold as the starting QB and did what he does best last week, running for 69 yards and a touchdown while avoiding any costly turnovers.
If Oklahoma is going to pull of the upset, Hawkins will have to repeat that performance, and Brent Venables will need to put together an all-time defensive gameplan. The Longhorns offense is 5th in the nation in yards per game and 9th in yards per play.
Texas has clearly been the best team in the country through the first 6 weeks, and we aren’t ready to pick against them just yet.
Our pick: Texas +1
Will Aston Jeanty Have 150+ Rushing Yards Against Hawaii?
Hawaii’s rushing defense has been surprisingly stingy this season, but this will clearly be their toughest test to date. The Rainbow Warriors are only allowing 142 yards per game and 4.2 yards per carry.
Jeanty’s lowest rushing output this season came against Portland State, where he had 127 yards on just 11 caries, his only game under 150 yards this season. He’s now in a Heisman race and the Boise staff will do whatever they can to keep his numbers up. We don’t see how Hawaii keeps him under this 150 yards number in week 7.
Our pick: Yes +1
#9 Ole Miss Rebels vs #13 LSU Tigers
In a loaded slate, this is one of a handful of games that stands out at first glance. With both of these teams entering with just one loss, this game will have major impacts on the SEC landscape.
Ole Miss dropped a tight game to Kentucky but rebounded last week with a blowout win over South Carolina. Jaxson Dart looks like a legitimate Heisman candidate heading into this matchup and should find success against a poor LSU secondary.
Don’t expect Ole Miss to run away the Tigers here, Brian Kelly is one of the best coaches in the country, and this LSU offense is loaded. The Tigers have one of the best offensive lines in college football, Garrett Nussmeier has been great, and they are averaging 5 yards per carry.
We’re going to go with LSU at home and hope to steal the +1 point bonus.
Our pick: LSU +2
#3 Oregon Ducks vs #2 Ohio State Buckeyes
In the headliner game of this loaded slate, the #3 Oregon Ducks will travel to Columbus to take on the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes. Both of these teams are 5-0, and outside of the Ducks’ 37-34 win over Boise State in week 2, neither team has really been tested.
There just isn’t enough incentive to pick the Ducks here. Ohio State has only allowed 34 points all season, and their rushing attack has looked unstoppable.
This is also the first true Big 10 road test for Oregon. We saw USC struggle in a similar situation against Michigan a few weeks ago, and think a similar outcome awaits Oregon here.
Our pick: Ohio State +2
Upset of the Week: USC over Penn State (+4 Points)
Our upset pick of the week is the USC Trojans over Penn State. We love the direction Lincoln Riley and D’Anton Lynn have this team headed and expect them to pull off the upset against a Penn State team that really hasn’t been tested this season.
The Nittany Lions’ biggest win came against Illinois, while USC has already beat LSU and gave Michigan all they could handle on the road. Give us the Trojans and the 4 points here.
